GETTING TO BHUTAN

AIR
Since Bhutan is land locked and currently has no transcontinental or long-haul flight connections, the air traveller will first have to reach one of the seven neighboring gateway cities: Bangkok, Singapore, Delhi, Dhaka, Kathmandu, Bagdogra or Guwati and during the winter season there are also direct flights from Bodh Gaya(the foremost pilgrimage centre of world Buddhism ) in north India. Conveniently it may be easiest for many visitors to use Bangkok as a hub because in most cases no Visa for Thailand shall be required. Otherwise those flying via Kathmandu shall have to obtain a Nepalese visa either in advance or on arrival at Tribhuvan Airport in Nepal. Travellers connecting through Dhaka or any of the Indian airports will require a pre-arranged visa(double entry if existing through the same country); India also requires a pre-arranged endorsement permitting re-entry within two months.Booking a Bhutan trip well in advance with the confirmed dates of entry and exit from Bhutan will help us to obtain your seats on the Druk Air / Bhutan Airlines flight on your preferred travel dates. This is because Druk Air / Bhutan Airlines has a limited seating capacity of only 105 Economy Class and 20 Executive Class and also flight frequency is less.

We, Hello Metho Travel Services will process your Druk Air / Bhutan Airlines flight booking upon receipt of air fare from you in advance and send the e-tickets to you via email.
BUT it is also possible to purchase Druk Air ticket online at www.drukair.com.bt and Bhutan Airlines at www.bhutanairlines.bt

ROAD
The road from Bagdogra (the nearest Indian airport) enters Bhutan at Phuentsholing, the border town. It is a 3-4 hours drive from Bagdogra airport, which can be reached by plane from Calcutta and Delhi. From Darjeeling or Gangtok (Sikkim), it can take 7 hours to Phuentsholing. It takes approximately 6 hours from Phuentsholing to Thimphu.
